Lake Nona Region

Owned by Tavistock Group, Lake Nona Golf & Country Club is located 20 minutes from downtown Orlando, 10 minutes from the Orlando International Airport and 30 minutes from the Atlantic beaches. The community is centered in Tavistock Group's current 7,000-acre (28 km2) mixed-use development plan for the Lake Nona region, which will be home to a life sciences cluster becoming known as the Lake Nona Medical City. The medical city includes the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and the Sanford Burnham Medical Research Institute. Nemours Children's Hospital, one of the nation's largest children's health systems, and the Orlando Veterans Affairs Medical Center, which will serve Central Florida's 400,000 veterans, will open facilities within medical city in the coming year. In addition, the University of Florida opened an academic and research center in Lake Nona Medical City in fall 2012. The facility houses a Comprehensive Drug Development Center, the University of Florida College of Pharmacy doctoral program and biomedical research laboratories.

Lake Nona has plans to create a major open-air town center that will include department stores, upscale fashion and large-scale retailers, restaurants and other entertainment venues. The first phase broke ground in 2012.

In 2014 USTA announced that it would be moving its headquarters to Lake Nona. The 100 court tennis facility is scheduled to open in late 2016.
